Dear Friend of the Players
As outgoing President of the Community Players, I am inordinately proud of our 2006-07 season. By any standard, it was among the most successful in recent Players’ history. From Oliver! to City of Angels to Translations to Metamorphoses, this season hit a high mark, setting a valuable standard for what the Community Players can be.
I am also proud of the Players’ ongoing record of service to the youth of the Greater Concord community. This season saw our Children’s Theater Project’s 11th major production, the hilarious musical How to Eat Like a Child, as well as a production of Godspell, Jr. by our winter vacation theater camp. We also continued a tradition begun last year with Romeo & Juliet, offering a special low-cost matinee of Metamorphoses for school classes, and making free tickets available to students who could not afford to attend the performance. In just the past two years, over one thousand students have attended our matinees.
While the lion’s share of our income comes from ticket sales (and always has) we have expenses other than those of putting on shows – most notably the cost of maintaining our studio, where we rehearse, build and store costumes and sets, and perform all the activities that keep our organization running. Like virtually every other arts organization (amateur or professional) in the country, we cannot survive on ticket sales alone. That is why we turn to you, our friends and supporters.
If you liked what you saw us do this year; if you’d like to see us do more of it; if you believe in our mission “to encourage, foster and promote the participation by amateurs in all phases of the theatrical arts” … then please support our efforts with a generous donation to the Community Players of Concord.
Thank you for your consideration,
Doug Schwarz, President
